I have some more absurd French-bashing proposals for John J. Miller: Change the name of the French Quarter in New Orleans to the “Freedom Quarter.” Consider returning the land obtained from France in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. And last but not least, return the Statue of Liberty, or barring that, change her into Uncle Sam.

The French, like most Europeans, know that what politicians say in public is often divergent from what is said or done behind the scenes. For example, American and French special forces collaborate on several sites around the globe, as is occasionally noted on European television. Thus, the French public just shrugs and grins at all the U.S. French-bashing.
